Privé MEDSPA Gynecomastia (Moobs)

Moobs (combination of ‘Man’ and ‘Boobs’) also known as Gynecomastia can be described as the abnormal development of large mammary glands in males, which results in the enlargement of the breasts.

The breast comprises of two main components: the firm and dense glandular tissue and the soft fatty tissue. In any breast, the ratio of glandular to fatty tissue will vary from one individual to the next. Gynecomastia cases tend to exhibit an excess of both. There is no known cause in most of the cases and, although Gynecomastia is rarely talked about, it is a very common condition.

Gynecomastia is widely present in today’s world, known to affect 40-60% of men at some time during their lives. For most sufferers, the symptoms and difficulties associated to this condition tend to resolve on their own. This usually happens after a couple of weeks or months. But in other cases, the problem may persist much longer and some men will have this condition for the rest of their lives.

Possible causes for Gynecomastia include:
• Obesity and lack of exercise
• Hormonal Changes Can Cause Gynecomastia
• Medication

There are certain prescribed medications that can affect hormonal balances, therefore indirectly causing this condition.

These include:
1. Anti-androgens used to treat prostate enlargement or cancer such as flutamide, cyproterone, finasteride and spironolactone.
2. AIDS medications such as the highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and Efavirenz.
3. Heart medications such as digitalis and calcium channel blockers.
4. Anti-anxiety medications such as diazepam (Valium).
5. Tricyclic antidepressants.
6. Antibiotics
7. Ulcer medications such as cimetidine
8. Cancer treatment (chemotherapy)
9. Steroids, Drugs and Alcohol Consumption can result In Gynecomastia Genetics and can also be a contributing factor in the cause of Gynecomastia Health Issues & Diseases As a result is can also be an underlying (and in some cases, indirect) cause for Moobs.

In office treatment:

At Clínica Privé, Moobs can be treated with the latest treatment offered namely UltraShape V3.
Given the choice, most people would rather choose a non- invasive procedure like UltraShape to improve their unwanted fat than choose invasive procedures like traditional liposuction and invasive laser lipolysis, which are invasive procedures with post-operative side effects and downtime. Liposuction is the most commonly used technique for fat reduction; however, it is associated with severe risks such as embolism, nerve compression, skin necrosis, problems with anesthesia, infection and seroma.
Furthermore the success of liposuction and laser lipolysis is highly dependent on the skills and experience of the surgeon, therefore results can vary considerably. Hence, there is need for safer, non-invasive technologies such as UltraShape, EndyMED 3DEEP and Velashape, to achieve fat reduction and improve the body and/or facial silhouette.
